HI!!! My name is Kate, from Ruamrudee International school of Thailand. I'm going to be 14 years old on March 29!!! I've just enter 8th grade on August 2011. Not long ago, we just finish the first quarter (YES!!!), but we still have 3 more to go!!
As you may know, currently, Thailand had met their worst flood in decades, making my school and many other schools extend their end of semester break. My school was suppose to originally open on the 25th of October, but due to the flood, we ended up reopening on the 24th of November (How great it is?!!!)! Apparently, the late reopen of school was a disaster!!! We have to make up for the days we lost by adding more hours to every class periods. We also have to study on some Saturday and many traditional holidays. Everyday we go home with piles of homework and projects.. It was a stressful week.

Flood in Thailand (Innovation)
During this October Break, I was given an assignment to read an article about Thai Innovation called, Thailand floods: floating toilets, makeshift jet skis, and doggie life jackets. After reading the article, I was surprise with how we, Thai citizens, support each other and being able quickly adapt this horrifying situation. All of these inventions, that were designed to solve problems cause by the flood, are very impressive and useful for the needs.
My favorite innovation is the doggy life jackets made of empty plastic bottles. The reason why I chose this invention as my most-liked was because, it was made from recycle plastic bottle. These plastic bottles has been a great problem for a long time, becoming a great amount of waste that are nearly impossible to destroy. Reusing used material is like reducing the number of waste and space taken by used waste. Also, since the flood has came, the number of death has increase due to many problems, and one of the main problems are people drowning. Doggy life jackets are not expensive, easy to produce, and could float.
More life jackets, less people drowning, less death!!!!

Flood in Thailand
During many school holidays. A horrifying flood has overtook many regions of Thailand, causing both external an internal problems to people.
Regions where flood had pass through where left with great damages. People who live there were left without homes and many properties were damage. Domestics animals in those region's farms were drowned, causing a great amount of money that the owner put in to raising becoming a great waste. On the other hand, the people who lives in the region, where the flood did not reach yet, they became stress and over feared because of the horrifying picture and video of the flood in the news. The flood is also causing food storage and other needs product of be out. Some of the products are predict to be still out of storage, even after the flood..
When this flood situation is over, I think that many people would have no work, this is because many factories or businesses were badly damage and could not be fix, so they have to close down, and leaving workers out of work. Also, I think that there will be a drought after a few month when the flood is over. The reason why there would be a drought is because, now they are pouring out all the water without saving it for future use.
I felt very sorry for the people that were victims of the flood. I wish for your safety. Stay strong!!!

Identity
Different people have different identities, and because of this, is what makes you different, special and unique. So, clearly I would not have the exact same personality and identity as my friends. My identity and personality is quite unique, but still, I will never try to hide it from others. I'm a person with an extremely hot temper in front of my family, but in contrast, in front of my friends and other people, I'm very hyper, active, playful and does not get mad easily. I love to play sports but sometimes I also don't like them, especially when I have to compete with a friend, in a sport which I'm bad at. People could get close to me very easily because I'm a person who could trust people without a question, but if someone did an mistake that hurts my feelings, then, my trust in them would no longer be there.
This is what makes YOU and ME different. The fact of what makes you, your personalities, talent, likes, and dislikes would all make you unique from others. Don't be scare to show it because you are who you are, and no one knows the real truth about you. So in conclusion, appreciate of what you have and use it in a good way. YOU could improve YOURSELF in the way YOU want to be, not what others wants YOU to be!

Metacognition
A few days ago, in Language Art class, Ms. Torie introduced us to a new word, Metacognition. No one in the class knew what is it, but we start to understand when Ms.Torie gave us the definition, thinking about your thinking, explain it clearly and make us do many activities related to it. After we finished, I have notice that I use metacognition everyday without event noticing that it is call a metacognition. It is very helpful when it comes to work that needs lots of thinking. The hard part about it is when one part of the metacognition is to think aloud. I don't really understand how does it help us think about what we are thinking. It is just saying out what we are thinking inside of our mind. The activities that we did, included my partner and I. I've learned from my friend that I'm not only the one that uses metacognition. In class, it is good to use metacognition because, it help us stay on task and know when I'm not thinking about what we are suppose to think. Also, it helps us understand ourselves even more by making us know what we are actually thinking right now. I will definitely use more of metacognition in class.
